Placement tests are used to determine the appropriate first-year courses for students based on their prior knowledge. It is critical that students begin coursework at the appropriate level to avoid course withdrawals, unsatisfactory grades and/or course repeats. All students are required to take the New Student Questionnaire prior to registering for orientation. Students can be auto-placed into Math and English courses using their SAT, ACT or AP (English only) scores. However, we strongly encourage all College of Science and Technology (CST) students to take the placement exams to get the most accurate placement result. Due to the CST math requirements, the auto-placement only places students into the lowest or highest levels of math. Yes, students are provided with a registration PIN at orientation that allows them to add/drop classes to their fall roster. Please note that they will only be able to add courses for which they have met the prerequisite through their placement scores, transfer credits or AP scores. Students may continue to adjust their schedule throughout the add/drop period (the first two weeks of the semester) without academic or financial penalty.

Yes. The Office of Pre-Professional Health Studies works exclusively with students who are interested in applying for professional school. We encourage students to connect with their office early in their academic career.

The BS offers more upper-level coursework in the major. However, the BA offers the same foundational coursework for the major. In place of the upper-level major coursework, the BA requires two semesters of a foreign language and two upper-level liberal arts requirements. The BA may be the best choice for students who double major, who get significantly off sequence with major requirements, who switch into the College of Science and Technology in their second or third year, etc. If a student wants to explore the BA option, they should schedule an advising appointment. Please note that some majors, such as mathematical economics, are only available as a BA option.

It depends on a student’s major and which math course they take in their first semester. Other factors that can impact timeline to graduation are course repeats due to unsatisfactory grades; completing coursework in the summer; and the number of credits taken each semester. It is possible to complete many of our majors in 4 years even with a lower level math start, but we would encourage your student to meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss their specific academic plan.

You may come to your student’s advising appointment if your student has completed a FERPA waiver for you. Having this waiver in place allows us to communicate confidential student record information with individuals that the student has designated.
