CST-Research Scholars Program

RSP has opened up so many research opportunities to me in my undergraduate career at Temple, and the experience I gained through being a part of this program has allowed me to pursue my goal of working in a lab long term, something I would not have been able to do as easily if it wasn't thanks to RSP.

My experience researching and presenting allowed me to gain hands-on experience that I could include in a resume and when selling myself to prospective employers. It also served as a foundation for my career aspirations as a policy researcher in climate science

Navigating research opportunities in college can be challenging, as many students receive little guidance on how to get started. Fortunately, my experience with RSP provided the mentorship and direction I once struggled to find, strengthening my critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in presenting my work. It has truly shaped me into becoming a more inquisitive and capable individual"

Talented students working with world-class researchers.

At the College of Science and Technology, real-world research projects are an essential part of the curriculum. Formerly known as the Undergraduate Research Program (URP), the CST-Research Scholars Program's goals are to get talented and motivated students into the laboratory with top Temple researchers and remove those obstacles that keep students from participating in advanced research projects as undergraduates.

CST-RSP projects have included testing an intelligent reasoning system, analyzing human tissue with laser electrospray mass spectrometry and studying the effects of ocean acidification on cold water coral. Today’s students need to have lab experience, especially if they are planning on going to medical or dental school. Increasingly, even entry-level positions require lab experience or ‘lab hands’. In such a competitive market—for jobs as well as for spots in highly competitive graduate programs—advanced research experience provides CST-RSP students with a distinct edge.

Gain lab skills and connections with experienced researchers.

CST-RSP students can work with Temple University faculty members on both Main Campus and the Health Sciences Campus to complete hands-on research in their particular field of interest. The program runs in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Eligible students can apply for the semester that best fits their schedule.

Throughout participation in the program, students build relationships with faculty, post-doctoral students and peers, connecting them to research, educational and career opportunities. Many CST-RSP participants have completed independent research projects which have led to presenting at National Conferences and co-authoring research papers with world-renowned scientists.

Why research? Why me?

Research creates mentorship opportunities, pathways to success and provides advanced skills and experience, enabling graduate and professional school success.
